At Sultan Tea, we love to experiment with tea blends and flavours and create unique recipes for different tastes and moods. But this means we have a LOT to choose from. Not sure which one is for you? Or which type of tea has the most benefits?
There are nearly 400 types of tea all over the world. They all come from the same plant – the Camellia Sinensis. This plant can create a huge range of different colours, aromas and flavours. All this depends on how the plant is treated as it grows.
From classic Earl Grey or English breakfast to spicy green tea or authentic Moroccan mint. We’re experts in crafting tea that our customers love.
Here is our official guide to tea to help you choose your perfect brew.
Black Tea
Black tea is crafted from fermented tea leaves and originates in Asia. Once harvested, its leaves are spread on wooden racks to dehydrate 50% of their water. The leaves are then rolled, releasing enzymes which cause them to ferment.
Black tea has a rich taste, includes natural caffeine and is known globally as a regular cup of tea - or even a ‘builder’s brew’.
There are lots of different varieties and flavours of black tea and it is enjoyed both with and without milk.
Benefits of black tea
Black tea is packed with antioxidants and can aid with healthy digestion. Drinking black tea can even help with health issues, such as blood pressure and cholesterol.
Green Tea
Green tea is very different from black tea as the leaves are not fermented. To make green tea, the leaves are warmed to a high temperature to prevent fermentation and then rolled, depending on if you’re creating grain or filament tea.
Green tea is popular because of its health benefits and its refreshing light caffeine kick. Originating in China, it is enjoyed plain or made sweet with sugar or honey or citrus with a touch of lemon.
Benefits of green tea
Alongside a great energy boost, green tea comes with a plethora of health benefits. From its antioxidants and cleansing properties to its ability to destress and clear the mind, green tea is good for both mind and body.
Mint Tea
There are lots of different types of infusions of mint tea but its most common varieties are peppermint and spearmint.
Mint grows everywhere around the world but it is universally associated with Morocco. In Morocco, Mint tea is a cultural symbol of hospitality and preparing and serving tea is more like a ceremony.
Benefits of mint tea
Mint tea has very few calories and no caffeine but it wakes you up and refreshes which makes it a popular choice for the health-conscious. Also a soothing and healing drink, mint tea is good for digestion and cleansing which makes it great for the skin.
Red Tea
Red tea comes from a plant that grows exclusively in Southwestern South Africa. It is processed in a very similar way to black tea and served both hot and cold.
With a sweet taste, red tea is naturally caffeine-free and is enjoyed both with or without milk.
Benefits of red tea
Like other types of tea, red tea comes with a multitude of benefits. It is good for digestion and holds anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties that help soothe the skin and body.
Oolong Tea
Oolong tea is about halfway between green and black tea and is particularly popular in China and Taiwan. As soon as the tea leaves are picked, they are withered, brewed and fermented at a high temperature. This produces the strength of black tea but the aromas and sensation of a green tea.
Oolong tea is enjoyed without milk and with very few calories, is a great choice for throughout the day or after a meal.
Benefits of oolong tea
Oolong tea is known to boost the metabolism so is often enjoyed as part of a balanced weight loss diet. It can aid healthy hair and skin, help with smooth digestion and also, ease stress.
White Tea
White tea is a rarer type of tea. It is the least changed after the leaves are picked. With a simple process, the leaves are left to dry in the shade producing a light and pure flavour with almost fruity notes. White tea has a very light amber hue and should not be green in colour.
Benefits of white tea
White tea is known to be particularly cleansing, packed with antioxidants. Alongside aiding the metabolism, it is also enjoyed to help with the anti-ageing of the skin and body.
